Meet Barb Horton
Barb currently serves as the Secretary of the Board of Directors. As a semi-retired special education teacher, she keeps busy with a variety of volunteer organizations. Barb shares,
I first got into Special Education through church. When I graduated from Sunday School, I was asked to work in the nursery. There I met Matthew, a young boy who would dramatically change the course of my life. Matthew had a variety of challenging behaviors and difficulties, and I had NO idea what to do with him, but I was determined to help him.
As I talked with my advisor at our Christian Science (CS) Org about Matthew, he told me of a private school for children like Matthew—run by a woman who was a Christian Scientist. I contacted her, started volunteering there, and shortly after changed my major to Special Education. Thus launched a wonderful career, spanning more than 40 years, working in a variety of school settings and with a range of age groups.
When I learned about RVRN four years ago, I was thrilled and eager to be part of this wonderful organization. I love bearing witness to the joy expressed by loved ones in all of our programs. I am so grateful that parents have a network to connect with and receive support from one another. Everyone is embraced in the arms of unconditional love!
